Happy Birthday Grandpa

My Grandpa in 1947.

Today is my Grandpa's 84th birthday! He is the best and I hope he had a wonderful day. I was a lucky kid to grow up near him and my other grandparents. Some of my favorite memories include walks to the beach, climbing his fruit trees, stealing his chair, snoring, playing the piano for him, watching movies, holiday meals with him and grandma, learning how to play the peg game and trying to beat the rubics cube, trips to Cannon Beach and down to Milbrae, listening to stories from 'back in the day,' and many, many more which are a little more private.

Don't you love my Grandma's hat?

My grandpa is a tall man, but was born a tiny, premature baby who shouldn't have lived. His grandmother bundled him in a shoe box and placed him in their makeshift incubator - the oven!

He grew up in Colorado and served in the Navy during WWII. He met my grandmother on a train as he was heading out to war. She says there were two seats available - one next to a soldier and the other next to a sailor. Thank goodness she chose the sailor!

The top picture of Grandpa is my favorite, and I have never seen the one with Grandma's hat. SO GREAT! I only wish I had more chances to go and visit them both.
