Our adventures adopting a kitty

Our rescued Kitty, watching the boys play and chasing leaves. Fall is the perfect time to be a kitten.

On one of the last days of summer, we were playing at the park near our home when Soren spotted a cat spying on us. She sat half hidden in the grass, watching our every move. As we approached her, we noticed a little neglect - lots of eye boogies and a wild look to her. However, she let us pick her up. She played and played with us and then settled on my lap for a nap while the boys continued playing. I was smitten and so were the boys.

Long story short, we couldn't find owners so we happily adopted her into our own family.

Somehow, we all fit cuddling on the couch. The kitty is on my lap and Leo is between me and Soren. This is how we watch family movies.

I've wanted a cat since last October, when a kitten befriended me at the local pumpkin patch. Since then, I've been dragging my family to Adopt-a-pet days at Petsmart and Petco all year. Nothing felt right. Now I know why - the perfect cat for our family was just waiting for us to find her.

Leo graciously allowing the cat to cuddle with him at nap time. His expression says it all.

Leo has adjusted....as well as a mature dog can. He allows her to cuddle with him and even follow him around the house, taking the occasionally playful swap at his tale. She obviously likes him more than he likes her. But I think he will continue to warm up. Every day, they cuddle closer and closer...

Our new cat, relaxing with me outside before the sunsets. She loves to follow us around the yard and be a part of a family.

At our first vet appointment, the vet confirmed that our Kitty is a "she" and is 8-months-oldish. Back home, we debated and debated on a name. I didn't realize how stubborn we each are here! The kids were pulling hard for Mittens or Socks. I was pushing for a cute witch's names - since she is a black cat - or a variation on Mittens or Socks, like Suzy Socks or Milly Mittens. I was shut down pretty quick by my opinionated 4-yr-old. And Scott really had his heart set on naming her after the 'Game of Thrones' character, Arya. The cat thinks her name is Kitty and answers to it on a regular basis.

I finally talked Lucas into liking the name Luna (Luna Lovegood, Luna from Star Sailor Moon, Luna means Moon, etc...), but he insisted we add Star (he loves looking for the first star every night to make a wish). Scott agreed on Luna Star and Soren did too - although he now claims he never agreed to the afore said name.

However, I am sticking with it - Meet Luna Star, the newest member of the Wheeler family. Cuddly, sweet and feisty as can be.
